Dear DL,
Hi, my name is Anonymous and I'm 15 years old. I have autism. I've been called ugly, fat ,bitch, fagot and more. I got beaten up a few times and social media seems to have gotten worse this past week. Someone took a phtot of me while using the school bathroom. They stuck it under the bathroom stall. The photo of me on the crapper was posted on every social media site. I told my mum, dad and teachers. My mum went to the school but the teachers didn't do anything. I feel depressed, alone and scared. I make small cuts on my body where no one can see them to numb the pain. My mum found out and went bonkers. I am now seeing a shrink twice a week but still feel alone. I do not want to go to school anymore because I am really scared of the bullying. What should I do?
Thanks for writing in. "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me," is a damn lie. Whether it's physical abuse or verbal, abuse is abuse. When your dealing with bullying it can feel like there's nothing you can do about it. If it's happening in school and telling a teacher is not helping there are other methods you can take to protect yourself. No one deserves to be bullied! Let me first congratulate you on your courage by taking the first step and telling your parents. You are very brave! Here are some things you and your parents can do to ensure your safety.
(1).STAY AWAY FROM PLACES WHERE BULLYING HAPPENS
Avoid places where you know a former bully will be. This isn't the easiest job, especially during school. Stay in crowded areas and around people you trust like certain teachers or friends. It's always best to travel in groups, that way, if something does happen there ae witnesses that can get help.
(2). OTHER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Talk to your parents about enrolling you in another school, such as a charter school which is usually a smaller classroom size. Everything is now digital, and if the city/state/country you reside in has online opportunities, then you can take courses online from home.
(3). CONTACTING SCHOOL BOARD
If other schools or homeschooling is not an option, it's time your parents go above the school and contact the school board, reporting the actions and procedures not properly taken by your school. You and your family can even get law enforcement or the local news station involved in your fight for justice.
(4). SELF-DEFENSE
Our website does not support or condone fighting in any kind of form. However, enrolling in a self-defense class can not only give you the ability to overcome your bully, it also will create a shield of self-confidence allowing you to discourage an attack before it begins. Self-defense not only improves your safety, but its beneficial for your emotional, mental and physical health. It will help boost your confidence. It's also a good positive outlet to channel any negative emotions.
You are a brave and strong person. Keep your head up and no matter what someone does or says to you, always know that your the better person, and your life has meaning and value. The same person that bullies you in your youth, will be beneath you as an adult. Most likely cleaning your floors to your corporate office or buliding that you own. Don't let anyone take away your greatness. Your success will shine over there heads later on in life. You are destined to do great things. Small minded people are the bullies. They are full of rage and jealously. There is only one of YOU. Don't ever forget your importance.
